<==

You look out over the open waters from the bridge. The gradient twilight of the setting sun reflects off the waves as they rise and fall. The peaks and crests glimmer like jewels. You look up to the horizon. The edge of the earth swallows up the sun, and you can see it wavering as it sends the last of its light across the ocean. The gentle sound of the waves crashing and pulling in the distance guides your breaths. You are calm.

Suddenly, the air feels cold, and the sound of the waves fades away. You feel an eery sense of dread, like a misfortune is growing near.

A deer approaches the railing of the bridge, walking on its hind two legs. It leans against the edge and gazes out into the sunset beside you. The deer seems sad, so deeply sad, like it knows the way and the day the world will end but can’t tell a soul.

“H-hello…?” You cautiously greet the strange guest.

The deer turns towards you, and you look into its pitch black eyes. You feel like you’ve lost something, but you don’t know what.

Maybe the deer knows.
